Keeping NWFL Premiership spot a must for Abia Angels – Agumanu-Chiejine

Abia Angels head coach, Ann Agumanu-Chiejine has said with 100% certainty that her side will keep their top-flight status at the end of the on-going Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership relegation play-off at the University of Benin Sports Complex in Benin City, Edo state. The play-off which decides among the fours the two teams to remain in the top-flight and two to be relegation will be concluded on Tuesday, May 11, 2021.

The Umuahia side are among the NWFL Premiership quartet in keen contest to fend off the relegation whirlwind, others are former champions, Pelican Stars, Ibom Angels and Dreamstar Ladies.

The Umuahia landladies have nipped four points from possible six at the conclusion matchday 2 actions on Sunday and will be confronting bottom-placed side, Dreamstar Ladies in the final day play-off clash on Tuesday.

Agumanu-Chiejine said her side are buoyed up to go for the final onslaught against Dreamstar Ladies by the inspiring and wonderful performance of her charges on matchday 2 clash against Ibom Angels on Sunday.

“Yes, we are certainly going to keep our position in the NWFL Premiership at the end of the play-off.

“What remains to be done is for the players to play strictly according to instruction in our last match against Dreamstar Ladies on Tuesday.

“Once that is done we will not have any problem retaining our premiership status at the end of the exercise.

“I’m sure the hard fought victory we had against Ibom Angels yesterday (Sunday) would have served as big motivation for them to go all out to get the win against Dreamstar Ladies.

Abia Angels are second on the four-team play-off log on four points same as leaders, Pelican Stars while Ibom Angels and Dreamstar ladies are third and fourth with on one point each.

At the end of the play-off exercise the two top teams will remain in the top-flight while the bottom two will be relegated.
