The seven-time champions are guests of the Pride of Rivers in Wednesday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 18 clash at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The People’s Elephant are enjoying a two-unanswered goals advantage from the first fixture clash against the Port Harcourt side decided at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba.
Bala said the matchday 18 clash against neighbours, Rivers United in Port Harcourt is crucial to their desire to successfully challenge for the leadership of the 12-team Group A.
“Our mission in Port Harcourt against the hosts, Rivers United is to hold tightly the existing unbeaten run; we are already on 11-match unbeaten run we hope to continue on same path.
“Rivers United lost their last match at MFM FC in Lagos an indication that the clash will be tough but we hope to come out of the tie unscathed.
“We are equally hoping to top the group. Right now just three points separate us from the leaders, Enugu Rangers.
“Three points is nothing as we hope to consolidate on our home advantage in the remaining matches while we strive to pick some points on the road.
“We believe that Rangers will further drop some points in the remaining matches on the calendar which will give us the edge to claim the top spot at the end of the day,” said the former Plateau United goal poacher to frontpixs.com.
After the mid-week clash in Port Harcourt against hosts, Rivers United the Aba side will be left with four matches to end the abridged season. Two matches each away to newcomers, Remo Stars and Katsina United while hosting same matches at home to Wikki Tourists and Niger Tornadoes.
The People’s Elephant are second on the Group A log on 28 points three behind oriental neighbours and leaders, Enugu Rangers.
