Rivers Utd stun Heartland in NPFL clash as Abia, Lobi, others claim victories

Rivers United consolidated on their second position on the log with an emphatic two unanswered goals at hosts and neighbours, Heartland in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 22 clash at the Okigwe Township Stadium.

Malachi Ohawuma scored twice in the 45th and 80th minute to hand the Pride of Rivers the whole three points at stake in the clash.

Elsewhere, Lobi Stars piped Kwara United 1-0 at the Kwara State Stadium in llorin to further step up the burning heat at the summit.

Alex Otakho Aghahowa scored the match winner for the Pride of Benue in the 21st minute of the encounter.

However, the Makurdi side finished the match with 10-man due to the issuance of red card to Musa Najare in the 45th minute as a result of bad tackle on Christian Nwanze.

Enugu Rangers compounded the woes of newcomers, Adamawa United with two unreplied goals at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

Isaac Loute scored the opener for the Flying Antelopes in the 45th minute while Israel Abia grabbed the winner from the penalty spot in the 61st minute.

Auwalu Ali scored the opener for the Pyramid City side in the 4th minute while Usman Babalolo scored the winner in the 33rd minute.

Plateau United firmed their hands on the summit with a 2-1 win against newcomers and visitors, Jigawa Golden Stars at the Jos New Stadium in Jos.
