Lobi maintain summit lead as El Kanemi, Pillars, Rangers win big

Lobi Stars’ summit leadership have been cut back to four points following the side’s 1-1 draw at Sunshine Stars in Sunday’s Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) matchday 19 clash at the Akure Township Stadium.

Former Sunshine Stars marksman, Samad Kadiri puts the Pride of Benue in front in the 88th minute while Jide Fatokun even scores for the Owena Waves in the 90th minute of the hotly contested encounter.

Niger Tornadoes’ 1-0 win against visiting side, MFM at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna helped the Ikon Allah Boys to climb to the second spot on the league log.

Mohammed Ndayebo scored from the penalty spot in the 13th minute to hand the Minna landlords the whole three points at stake in the clash.

Elsewhere, four-time champions, Kano Pillars further compounded the woes of bottom side, Heartland with an emphatic 2-0 win at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.

Junior Lokosa’s brace in the 14th and 47th minutes proved adequate to hand the Pyramid City side the cushioning three points at stake.

Abia Warriors defeated South-South neighbours, Rivers United 2-1 in their matchup at the Umuahia Township Stadium.

Former Heartland midfielder, Arinze Nwangwu scored the match opener for the Umuahia side in the 38th minute before Ndifreke Effiong upped the goal tally in the 54th minute while Malachi Ohawuma grabbed the consolation for the Pride of Rivers in the 65th minute.

Seven-time champions, Enugu Rangers pummelled struggling side, Wikki Tourists 3-0 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.

Godwin Aguda scored the opening goal for the Coal City side in the 35th minute while Christian Madu and Kelvin Itoya scored one each in the 47th and 71st minutes respectively.

El Kanemi Warriors turned back empty-handed visitors, Nasarawa United with a 2-0 spanking at the El Kanemi Warriors Stadium in Maiduguri.

Togolese import, Antonio Desousa scored the match opener for the Borno Army in the 10th minute while Michael Ohanu grabbed the winner in the 54th minute of the clash.

Reigning champions, Plateau United piped visiting side, Katsina United 1-0 at the New Jos Stadium.

Emmanuel Odafe scored the match winner for the Tin City side in the 56th minute.

Enyimba shared the spoils 0-0 with Akwa United at their adopted ground – UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

Top-flight newcomers, Go Round FC played a goalless draw against FC IfeanyiUbah at the Krisdera Hotel Stadium in Omoku.

Newcomers, Yobe Desert Stars drew goalless with fellow newcomers, Kwara United at the August 27 Stadium in Damaturu.
