Gift celebrates NWPL winning goal

FC Robo Queens forward, Monday Gift has said she was cocksure her side will win the clash against visiting side, Osun Babes.

The Lagos side piped hard fighting Osogbo side 1-0 in Wednesday’s Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) matchday 2 clash at the Legacy Pitch, National Stadium in Lagos.

The Nigerian star stoppage time goal proved adequate to hand the Lagos side the whole three points at stake in the hotly contested encounter watched capacity crowd.

Gift said she was resolute that a winning goal will come even when the goal appears to be dragging to eternity.

“I feel really great scoring the winning goal for my side even though it took a hell of time to come.

“I was never shaken in my confidence even for a second that the goal will certainly come, I never lost hope.

“What I did instead was to continue pushing hard because I was damn sure that the goal will come and I thank God that it eventually came.

“I’m happy that God used me to score the match winner and in that vein handed us our first home victory,” said Gift to

Gift commended their opponents, Osun Babes for giving them a good run for the hard earned victory.  

“I have been playing Osun Babes for a very long time, they are good side and did not disappoint.

“Osun Babes played quite well, we, too played quite well but we played better to ably deserve the hard fought win.

“The victory has given us a lot of hope going forward in other matches, we now have confidence of finishing the season on high,” said Gift.

The victory takes the Lagos side point haul to three after two matches on the NWPL Group A table.
